The inclination to be immoral.

After finding out New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been busted for being a willing customer of an escort service, it brings up the very pertinent fact that humans are inclined to be immoral.  Eliot Spitzer was an aggressive man who tried to bring criminals to justice as best he could.  He fiercely attacked prostitution rings and was a respected public figure.  The fact that he paid for an escort would seem unbelievable to some people, but human beings are attracted to immorality.  When you are a public figure, you cannot be involved in illegal activities because the truth will eventually come out.  Governor Spitzer knew what he was doing was wrong, but he could not resist the temptation of being risky.  He indulged and allowed himself to partake in a life and career shattering act.  The risk involved provides excitement, but how could you build a career doing one thing and then go completely against everything you stand for.  How many times did Governor Spitzer pay for an escort?  I highly doubt it was only one time.  This man condemned others for their immorality when he was just as guilty as each and every one of them.

I find it interesting that humans can live with their immoral decisions and so quickly call out others for their faults.  Every single person in this world has strengths and weaknesses, talents and struggles, quality traits and poor traits.   Why are we attracted to the idea of being “bad”?  I think every person on occasion thinks about doing something wrong, but it is the moral and just citizens that withstand this “craving” to do the right thing.  It takes a strong will and belief in oneself to avoid falling into these traps.  The next time you are struggling with a decision that you know is wrong, just sit back and know that you will feel better about yourself afterwards if you do the right thing.  You will be proud of your actions, I guarantee it!
