Design Tip: use and limitation of font styles
When designing an application, a lot of thought should go into what font-family you use. It is important to try and match the font to the look and feel of the site you are constructing. However, when deciding on a style, make sure that you do not switch between several different fonts on a single page or from page to page. I would not recommend using more than two different font styles on any single page. More than two fonts drastically inhibits the flow of your site and takes away from the actual content displayed within it. Also, if using two fonts, make sure there is a natural flow to how you are using them. For instance, use one font solely for headings and the other font for actual content, links, etc. Don’t just randomly switch from one font to the next.
It is equally important to make sure you keep a standard font look from page to page on your site. Drastic switches in font styles is detrimental to the user’s experience on your site. A change in font from one page to another makes it seem like you are moving to a new site and a new idea. This is turn does not allow your site to build its brand and look with the user.
